ABDUCTION
This work centers around a narrative involving an extraterrestrial (or inter-dimensional) abduction crafted as an allegory to convey the profound sense of disconnection from one's own body that can result from the impact of trauma. The theme delves into the exploration of whether it’s possible to re-establish a connection with oneself subsequent to the process of navigating and working through trauma. The essence of the piece lies in the quest for personal reintegration or eventual transformation that can occur through healing.
4 Women Meditations: Between Love and Fear (performance solo + Film)
Between Love and Fear is an investigation into feeling and the anxieties of overcoming religious trauma. With 3 objects onstage: a light, a camera (ideally) projected into the space, and a body, Between Love and Fear is a raw construction of thoughts and reasoning and attempt by the narrator to have a conversation with the viewer about the effects of being caught up in a cult and what path she is choosing to move forward.
4 Women
Between Love and Fear is a 30-40 minute interdisciplinary work in progress that follows the stories of 3 women as they decolonize their belief systems, navigate unfurling themselves from patriarchy, colliding of cultural identity and finally navigating the depths of love through fear. These women follow the roads of evangelical America in search of God for themselves. By creating searing portraits of these characters their beliefs, doubts, hope, and their losses and attempts to reclaim God for themselves. As we know there is no one journey/story of reclamation of self that is or looks the same. I'd like to highlight different interpretations of what becoming, and stepping into the power of self looks like in this work.
This piece is interdisciplinary and intended for multiple mediums:
film, stage and a gallery exhibition.
